South Congress Café is smack dab in the middle of South Congress, so you’ve probably walked by it at least a few times while perusing the surrounding boutiques. It has that iconic, copper green door. Inside, it’s beautiful, bright, sunny, open, with warm-toned wood and a modern, deco ceiling. We arrived before the dinner rush, and the restaurant was nearly empty, but it was full by the time we left an hour or so later. It is very popular for brunch, which I’ve actually had, and can say it’s fantastic (the bloody mary is touted as the best in town) and worth the wait. But, back to happy hour. The drinks were great! I had three, which may not have been the best idea on a night during which we planned to hit three happy hours, but oh well! I enjoyed a mojito, a frozen margarita, and a white sangria. I also tried someone else’s red sangria (yum) and frozen lemonade (double yum). It was all… yum. Fruity, cold, delicious. If you aren’t into that, South Congress Café offers beer, including a number of craft beers, and wine at a discount. My fiancé (husband on the 25th!) and I also had the pleasure of drinking/eating the largest oyster shooters either of us have ever had. One of the other Drink Chicks in attendance ordered the crab cakes, which I can whole-heartedly recommend. South Congress Café is a beautiful restaurant (though we wished they had a patio!) in an exciting neighborhood, with cheap, tasty drink and food specials, and you should head over if you’re in the area (or even if not!) for their generous happy hour.
