We know you’ve heard of qui, rock star/James Beard award winning chef Paul Qui’s restaurant on Austin’s eastside. And we know you know about his food truck offerings a la East Side Kings and/or Thai-Kun. You’ve either been there, or are planning to be there, or have heard everyone and their mom talk about being there.
It’s standard Austin fare. But…. It seems a relative few know about the patio happy-hour option at qui. Patio happy hour at qui means that budget-minded fine-food aficionados get to have their cake and eat it too. The patio menu goes all night [pulutan; Filipino snack foods] and includes samplings that range from $4 [lumpia tacos] to $12 [squid adobo; dinuguan], with several options in between [like the $8 kare kare, a vegetable peanut curry that was the talk of the table].
And because you needed a cherry on top [who doesn’t want a cherry on top], patio diners have the absolute pleasure of imbibing on deliciously refreshing aperitifs as long as the sun remains above the horizon. It’s basically everything you’ve ever wanted: a lovely patio atmosphere, bathed in sunshine, with $5 quality drinks and some of the most justifiably hyped yet reasonably priced food around. No, for real, it’s a win-win-win situation. Extra-emphasis on the win.
