On the North end of Rainey sits No Va Kitchen & Bar. It is a decidedly modern take on the renovated-houses-as-businesses aesthetic of the area. Nestled as it is amongst the construction of the new condos that have stomped out several classic Rainey haunts, the name (which translates to “It doesn’t go”) has an extra level of import. I, for one, hope that is the case.
No Va is like the sophisticated older sibling of the rest of the Rainey spots. It’s more restaurant than bar, and has an enticing menu from happy hour to late night. Décor-wise, it’s a great balance between modern and classic sophistication. The drinks and food are a little on the pricey side, but there are plenty of places nearby to go if you just want the best deal. No Va is for when you want a more refined experience; think of this as your date spot or a place to take colleagues visiting from out of town offices. I recommend the (sadly not pictured) upstairs patio for dining. With a view of the bustling street below, it’s a prime people watching spot, that still feels comfortably apart from the crowd.
