50 cents off beer, wells, & calls
Monday - Friday 5-7
none, but there's a Jamaican trailer across the street that's fed us well in the past
Longbranch Inn is one of those places that’s deceptively simple, but brimming with character. It’s the kind of place you head for drinks and inevitably end up with a good story. The first time I visited, for example, was an evening that resulted in my getting kidnapped -via scooter.
Despite it’s proximity to bustling 6th Street there’s something about Longbranch Inn that keeps it a world apart - a bastion for long-time East Siders and Austinites generally. The drinks are cheap, the atmosphere no frills but comfortable, and if you come at the right times you can catch some killer shows.
Happy hour is decidedly mellower than the nighttime scene. Our group comprised 75% of the crowd. If you’re looking for a people watching destination, this is not it, but if you’re more in the mood to throw a couple back with friends, and not regret it on tomorrow’s bank statement, this is an ideal spot to head. Just remember to tell us those great stories after you do.
- Last fall at Longbranch they were selling steer skulls in KISS paint by a local (?) artist. Damn, I wish I’d had the money. If anyone knows who the artist was, xmas is coming up….
