King Bee Happy Hour Review

King Bee

Tell Me More

What was once the Legendary White Swan has become the equally alluring King Bee, situated off the corner of 12th and Chicon. The inside of this lounge is as dark and mysterious as the outside façade [which is painted solid black, for those that are curious]. A jukebox is situated near the entrance, which means you can listen to Sam Cook all night while you sip your beverages [this may or may not be what we did].

The happy hour consists of ½ off any glass of wine from a bottle opened the night before, which leaves you with a random selection of $3 options [which was thoroughly enjoyed, by the way]. Although not on happy hour, King Bee offers some exceptional cocktail options including the Bees Knees [$8] – served frozen from a margarita machine and guaranteed to inflict happiness on heat-exhausted Austinites.

The weeknight scene was quiet and lends itself to a romantic date or catching up with girlfriends. Weekends are likely to be a lot livelier [think live music, and dancing if you’re lucky]. As noted above, they serve pizza [!] which should make just about everyone happy, especially because it’s a good sharing-portion. So don’t bee square, we’ll see you there [super cheesy, I know].
