Tell Me More
You know that feeling you get at the end of a long workday, when you find your mind wandering off to thoughts of sandy beaches, island sounds, humid air, and a cool sweet drink in your hand? Isla knows that feeling, and they’re hoping that once you punch out that time card you head straight to their tiki bar for a happy hour cocktail that will sweep you away. The bar is intended to inspire the feelings of Earnest Hemingway’s era Cuba.
In other words, pretend you’re in the 1940’s sipping a sweet rum concoction out of a menacing tiki man glass. Really, their selection of tiki men mugs was impressive and worthy of covet. The happy hour specials are fitting for the scene: $6 for select tropical cocktails (normally $10-11) and 25% off selected island-inspired food items (with quite a broad price range). The empanadas, ceviche, and fried yucca were tempting, but we decided on the plantain chips (served thin and crispy) with a divine garlic lime aioli (I literally licked the bowl clean despite the embarrassment factor) and papas rellenas (like chile relleno, but with papas).
Our portion sizes varied despite similar price tags, so ask your bartender for recommendations based on your needs and wants. The drinks are sweet and the food is rich, so you may need to be rolled out of there after happy hour. Just like any good vacation.
