4-8 daily: $1 off everything
average age: early to mid 20s
volume: most tables full, but no standing crowd
vibe: laid back
nada, unless you count bar fruit
The Handlebar on a Friday night is a mob scene with blasting dance pop mixes and shoving room only at the bar. Happy hour, however, has more of a laid back drinks with friends vibe. The people watching options may be reduced, but they still stock handsome, mustachioed bartenders if that's your thing (It's most definitely mine). The $1 off special isn't too thrilling, but at least it's easy to keep track of and it applies across the board. Since this happy hour runs relatively late I recommend coming towards the end to enjoy the sunset on their killer rooftop patio. It's got a fun drunken playground theme complete with giant jenga, a see-saw and even those bouncy spring animals. I don't recommend riding those wasted unless you enjoy falling in public.
- The badass "VIP" booth in the center of the staircase has its own tv and would thus be a great compromise if you're with a group where some want to watch the game and others dread sports bars.
- This bar has its own flag. More bars should have their own flags.
- Any bar with framed, nude Burt Reynolds is alright in my book.
